Krystal Biotech Extends Its Coupa Ecosystem Upstream with Contract Lifecycle Management
A biotech with a working Coupa procurement foundation brought contracts into the same platform — and rated the DataMap implementation 5 out of 5.

Krystal Biotech
The challenge
Krystal Biotech had a working Coupa procurement foundation, but the front end of the spend lifecycle — contracts — still lived outside it. Agreements were negotiated and stored apart from the system that governed purchasing, which meant contract terms, renewal dates, and negotiated pricing were disconnected from the requisitions and POs that depended on them.
What we did
DataMap extended Krystal's Coupa ecosystem upstream by implementing Coupa Contract Lifecycle Management and connecting authored contracts directly to downstream procurement. Negotiated terms now flow into buying, renewals are tracked before they lapse, and compliance is enforced at the point of purchase rather than discovered in an audit.
Results
Krystal rated the implementation 5 out of 5. Contracting and procurement now operate as one connected process on a single platform — the front of the lifecycle finally speaking to the rest of it.
Why it matters for life sciences
Biotech and pharma spend is contract-heavy: CROs, CDMOs, clinical suppliers, and licensing agreements with terms that change what a requisition is allowed to do. Putting CLM on the same platform as procurement is how those terms stop being a PDF in a shared drive and start governing the purchase.
